A one-stop source about accessory dwelling units, multigenerational homes, laneway houses, ADUs, granny flats, in-law units…
I’m very excited to announce Build Small, Live Large: Portland’s Accessory Dwelling Unit Tour – Spring, 2015.
Last year, we made the difficult decision to cap admission in the week leading up to the tour because of the overwhelming interest. This year, we’ve decided to double down and make the event twice as big so that we don’t have to turn anyone away.
It’s going to be a two day event with 10+ ADUs in NE Portland on Saturday, and a different set of 10+ ADUs in SE Portland on Sunday. I’ll be teaching a 3 hour ADU workshop on Friday evening, and on Saturday evening, there will be a party with music and open tiny houses on wheels at Caravan- The Tiny House Hotel.
I’ve visited all of the ADUs that will be featured on the tour, and am very excited for this year’s line up. Each ADU on this tour is unique–and represents a large range of design choices, layouts, costs, site conditions, and owner/tenant relationships . Here’s a few of the ADUs that will be featured on the tour:
We’ll be posting more information about all of the ADUS on the tour page in March and April.
Coming in from out of town for the tour? Book your flights now and find an Airbnb ADU to stay in.
This tour is managed by Caravan- The Tiny House Hotel, with support from the City of Portland, Metro, and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

I am interested in touring both Northeast and northwest. I am confused as to the cost. It was my understanding that the fee applied to the workshops only. Please clarify.
