AccessoryDwellings.org aims to be a one-stop reference for anyone interested in creating an accessory dwelling unit — otherwise known as a granny flat, a backyard cottage, an in-law suite, and a dozen other names.

The idea is simple: having a second small dwelling right on the same grounds (or attached to) your regular single-family house.   But executing this simple idea can be rather complex.

This site aims to help, by covering all the basics — from what accessory dwellings look like to how they’re financed, used, and built.   We’ll also feature images and drawings for on-the-ground ADUs, plus the stories behind them.  We’re all volunteers here, so we welcome your contributions.
